apparently its not friday...

so...i thought it was friday for a little bit this morning, till i got into work (camp counselor) and everybody was like "no tomorrow is an alpha day so we go to this class today" and i was like oh its not friday...
but i was also a little bit spacey because all my friends (including my boyfriend) come back from South Africa today!!! i'm so excited to have them all back.  i missed you all! allright fine, i missed most of you.  as we tell the children, lying is bad.

so this past week i have noticed a reoccurring theme in mine (and other peoples) conversations.  and that topic is problems in society.
now this is really broad, so im just going to touch on it.
to start us off, i know its not just me who has noticed, but today, not only have the skirts of america's teenagers been getting shorter...but the skirts of america's children are getting shorter.  im talking 5 year olds in miniskirts.  seriously, what is wrong with that picture...so many things!
not only do they "not have anything to show off" but its just gross. i mean these kids are innocent little people who still think guys have cooties (actually...well we'll get to that in a second.) i mean when i was little i would wear leggings pulled up as high as they could possibly go.  im not saying this is a good fashion statement, but consider this.  i know when alot of us look back at our pictures when we were little kids, we were wearing overalls and dresses with pants underneath and t shirts that were too big, polos tucked into your jeans...you get the point,  we dressed with modesty.  today walking down the street or at the mall, i see little kids in mini mini skirts, tube tops, halter tops, belly shirts, i mean seriously! first of, it just looks ridiculous.  i dont want to get in trouble for this but parents, what were you thinking?!  look at your little girl and think, if this is what she's wearing now, then how short is her skirt going to be when shes say 16? is she even going to be wearing a shirt? or will that be just "too much fabric." i mean its gotta say something when you look at a teenager who is showing less skin than your 5 year old girl.  the point being, put some leggings under that skirt, buy skorts (shorts/skirts combination) replace the tube top with a t-shirt.  this look must go.  onto cooties.
so remember a time when dating was something you only began to think of in 5th grade, right after you realized in 4th grade that, "hey, boys really are cute" (or girls if you are a boy or lesbian or bisexual or anything)but today...ha well today in age, im not even sure if cooties still exist...personal example, i know a 13 year old who is on his like 7th girlfriend, huh?
i may not be in the loop, but im pretty sure that none of us sophomores started dating till like 7th grade right?  so today in age, by 7th grade, apparently you have had more than 5 girlfriends. not only are people dating much earlier, which consequently is not so much of a problem as the following is, but they are doing other things.  7th graders preforming blow jobs, 8th graders having sex...thats a little tooo early.  i mean everyone is entitled to their own opinions and im not condoning or promoting abstinence but im just saying middle schoolers and sex do not mix. isn't anyone a virgin anymore?
next: technology.  i know that i am guilty of this and i realize my bad.  but today in age, there are so many ways to talk to someone that are completely artificial.  whatever happened to face to face conversations.  really, those are amazing.  as great as texting, emailing, iming and all those other things are, face to face is always better.  you can show emotions besides happy and sad, you can say things with a tone, and best of all you can touch, see, smell and all that jazz to the person you're talking to.  so call your friends up and arrange a get together.  go out to dinner! its really great.
also, among my faults, ipods and headphones.  i am guilty of listening to my ipod on the metro, airplanes, in the car, walking...and any spare time i have.  but why not try and strike up a conversation? or read a book, do a crossword puzzle? i know im going to start picking up a newspaper on my way to the subway, catch up on the news of the day, and the sudoku puzzle for brainwork.  but dont block out the sounds of the earth.  so one day, just take a walk and see what you hear.  or sit on the subway and just listen to the chatter of people.  besides, you never know what you could hear. you could hear some potentially interesting conversations.  but when eavesdropping, be careful.  dont be so obvious to the fact your listening.  and im not saying its ok, but its not that bad because you dont know these people.
finally, why cant people take a compliment anymore.  my friend brought this to my attention today.  i mean why cant someone say, you are so friggin cool! without you thinking "are they hitting on me, are they crazy, do i know you?"
i mean just say thank you and be like, yeah i am cool.  its a self confidence boost, somebody is complimenting you. say thank you. can't anybody just accept that some people are really genuine? i mean it is hard to believe in a world of phonies.  but we are out there, and when we tell you your freakin cool, you are!

ok i feel like that's enough for today, in fact it may be a little too much.
as always, comments appreciated!

till tomorrow
~Natasha
